The natural beauty of leather

There’s a unique magic in real leather, born from its very nature. As a natural product, every hide carries its own story: subtle variations in grain, gentle creases, and organic markings that speak to the life it once protected.

This natural authenticity is what gives leather its enduring allure and unmistakable glamour.

Aniline leathers celebrate this raw beauty most purely, dyed without surface coating so the hide’s true character shines.

Semi-aniline leathers, lightly protected, retain much of this natural appeal while adding a touch of everyday resilience. Over time, real leather ages, developing a rich patina that only deepens its warmth and individuality — a living material that becomes ever more beautiful with age.

How does leather age over time?

Leather is a natural, breathable material, so you should expect it to change over time. That's the beauty of leather, it interacts with its surroundings and becomes lived in and is one of the few materials that can improve in appearance and appeal as it ages.

Like many materials, leather is sensitive to extreme temperatures, so placing your leather sofa right under your air-conditioning or next to a radiator is going to dry out the leather's natural oils. All leathers will fade over time when exposed to UV, so consider this when you place your leather sofa or chair.

Aniline leather

Aniline leather is the purest expression of the material — dyed with a translucent, soluble dye that brings out the hide’s natural character rather than covering it up.

With no surface pigment or heavy protective finish, aniline leather feels luxuriously soft and warm to the touch. You can see and feel every unique nuance, from slight scars to gentle colour shifts, making each piece truly unique.

Semi-aniline leather

For those seeking a balance between this natural beauty and greater practicality, semi-aniline leather offers a light protective finish that helps guard against spills, while still preserving much of the hide’s authentic charm. Over time, all natural leather continues to age, developing a graceful patina that tells its own personal story — a testament to nature, craft, and the quiet glamour of genuine leather.

Pigmented leather

Pigmented leather is a type of leather treated with a layer of pigment and protective topcoats to create a uniform, durable and stain-resistant surface. It's characterised by its consistent colour and texture, enhanced durability and ease of maintenance. This treatment effectively hides natural imperfections in the hide and provides resistance to stains, fading and scratches

General care of leather upholstery

Different leather types require specific care products. It is recommended to always test any product in an inconspicuous area first. Allow leather to dry naturally away from direct heat. Aniline leathers often benefit from heavy conditioners like waxes, while pigmented leathers which have a surface coating require a good leather cleaner and conditioner.

Leather is a natural product, and both texture and colour will vary slightly from hide to hide.  Always remove stains immediately. DO NOT RUB. Dab spills immediately with a soft cloth and use a mild soap and water to lift the stain.
Surface scratches can be rubbed out with the warmth of a finger or a soft, dry chamois cloth. If necessary, consult a professional leather cleaning specialist

If a liquid such as coffee or juice is spilled on the upholstery, it may result in a permanent stain if it is not cleaned up promptly. Immediately use a dry cloth to absorb the liquid. Next, soak a soft cloth in lukewarm water containing a small amount of mild detergent (in a 3-5% solution), lightly wring the cloth, and use it to clean off the spot. Then use a clean, slightly moist cloth to completely remove any remaining detergent.

Leather breathes and is very sensitive to dry conditions.

Avoid exposing the upholstery to very dry air from air conditioners or heaters, as this may cause cracking in the leather or splitting of the seams.

Protect from direct sunlight.
