Pōhutukawa House

Architect: NOTT Architects

Builder: Smith Construction

Photography: Biddi Rowley

Set into a private stretch of Mangawhai coastline, Pōhutukawa House was designed by NOTT Architects as a quiet, considered retreat for an extended family, a home written into the landscape rather than placed upon it. Mature Pōhutukawa, a private beach, and a restrained palette of weathered timber and natural finishes set the tone, nothing competes with the setting.

Inside this assured architectural shell, Dawson and Co supplied the principal interiors. The living spaces are anchored by the Marteen Modular Sofa by Molteni&C, joined by the Space Power 5300 Recliner by IMG and grounded underfoot by the Ramsay Rug by Bayliss. Dining is centred on the Apian Dining Table by Calligaris Studio, paired with Fifties Dining Chairs and the Palm Stool, also by Calligaris Studio.

Outdoors, the covered decks are configured for long, easy gatherings, the Ariki Modular Sofa Set by Cove Outdoor opening onto the coastline, with the Bight Curved Dining Table and Bight Dining Chairs by Cove Outdoor completing the scene beneath the pōhutukawa canopy.
